Innovation in the Safety Control of Radiation Protection Doors:
Performance Level d (PL ‘d’), according to EN ISO 13849-1
The product standard for power-operated doors, EN 12453, requires in its chapter 5.1.2 the performance level c with at least category 2, according to EN ISO 13849-1, for controls of radiation protection doors. The performance level stands for the reliable maintenance of the safety level of the power-operated radiation protection door and must be determined based on the applicable product standard or through a risk assessment according to the Machinery Directive. To ensure compliant safety, we, as the only supplier of radiation protection doors, offer an optional ‘Safety Control’ with Performance Level d (PL ‘d’), according to EN ISO 13849-1. This control ensures that the probability of a dangerous failure of a safety function per hour is limited to 10-7 < PFHd (Probability of Dangerous Failure per Hour) < 10-6. To implement these probabilities, safety-relevant components, the speed and the direction of rotation of the motor are safely monitored by the control for malfunctions. This feature, among other things, ensures that the crucial closing forces can be sustainably maintained.
